I'm tired of running into matches where it's obvious people are abusing their QoS feature on their modems... It seems as if BO2/Activision just sweeps this issue under the table and calls it good.
When people have pings that start at around 60-80ping and randomly spike to 110-150, hell I've seen them go even higher in upwards of 200.
Now you're going to ask, how does this give an advantage?
Well when someone gets a 65-80ping and they restrict their QoS, they:
A.) Get an enormous amount of lag comp (that they don't need)
B.) They rubber band a lot, so they'll be running normal speed then bam, they do double speed since the host is playing catch up of where their location is in the game.
C.) People shooting at them usually get tons of ghost hits, especially if they're running and gunning like mad (since the hit box is lagging behind them).
D.) When they shoot people their bullets rubber band as well, making several hits, hit instantly and usually kill you before you can react.
Basically the QoS service sees that the program is using more of the bandwidth than designated and throttles the crap out of it causing these symptoms.
The worst symptom of all, is everyone lags more because of this, while the person doing it is getting the upper hand.. If the host is the one throttling then you get random disconnects and the host is normally at the top winning the game..
Now my connection is 60down and 10up... I run my QoS at 30down and 5up when I play since it keeps my connection nice and smooth, meaning I vary maybe 2-5ms.. If I ran fiber I wouldn't have to do this to make my net run smooth, fiber is rare in the Midwest..
So what I'm wondering is, why hasn't Activision done anything about this abuse? Why couldn't you create additional software to detect terrible pings or people who are obviously messing with their QoS and give them no lag comp?
I mean it can't be hard for a program to tell the difference between someone who spikes a little from running wireless (which a good router won't do with proper configuration) and someone who's abusing or using their Verizon cell phones hotspot to play the game.
